Weeds are occupying my hanging planter that used to house cilantro. The consequence of neglecting a planter.

But this one right here looks almost edible. What is it?

This next one I know. Stinging Nettles. At least now I know. It stung me. Ouch, ouch…

It’s edible. Should I try it?

edible peach blossoms

My peach tree is in bloom. I have yet to taste a single ripened fruit from this tree, even though this scene recurs every year for the last five years.

This is a Flat Wonderful Peach and it suffers from brown rot. Before the fruits reach a decent size, they usually start rotting. Anybody has suggestions what to do? Organically?

The flowers are supposedly edible in small quantities (according to Green Deane of Eat The Weeds), but I’m not taking chances. I’m only using them to decorate my Thai Beef Salad.

Oh, and Happy Earth Day!!

forager's fritters the novice gardener

I seem to be hung up on the eff word. No, not THAT eff word! I’m talking about my last post and these words: Fiesta Friday, Forager’s Frittata, Forager’s French Toast, Farfalle Fungi… I thought about that last one, but decided against it. It was stretching it and getting predictable.

A forager’s first harvest of the season. Yes, this is what a forager’s harvest looks like. Pretty awesome, isn’t it?

Clockwise, starting from the top: Dandelion blossoms & greens, field garlic, purple deadnettles, chickweed, curly dock leaves, mouse-eared chickweed.

Fiesta Friday #432

It’s T-minus 22 working days until the official start of my Summer break. I can hardly wait! I can only speak for myself, but it’s been a tough year working in a school setting. By that, I don’t mean the job is suddenly beyond my capabilities, but rather it’s become mentally draining. Let’s just say […]

I wish all Fiesta Friday Moms a very happy Mother’s Day in advance! I hope your families will spoil you rotten on Sunday and treat you like a queen for the day. Or the week. Or forever… Because, honestly, all moms deserve to be treated that way ALL the time. And I’m a mom, so […]

These are the priorities in my life right now: Weeding Mulching Weeding and mulching ALL my spare time is consumed by those chores.  Meals have become predictable – Chinese takeouts, Chipotle drive-thrus, and Panera pick-ups. My poor family! Or rather, poor me! This is why someone else needs to learn to cook! I did bring […]

Fiesta Friday #429

I can’t believe it’s Friday already. Again. Where has the time gone?! And soon I’ll have to go back to work, boo hoo! Today, though, I’ll drag the husband to Amish Country Lancaster. It’s been a while since our last visit. I’m in the mood for some Amish baked goods, especially the cheese bread. And […]
