lamb kebabs with pita bread

I woke up this morning and said to myself,

“Kebabs!”

So I replied, “Are you nuts? The deck is covered in snow! I’m not going out there!”

To which I answered,

“Suit yourself, I’m firing up the grill whether you’re coming with me or not.”

What? Why are you all looking at me like that? You never have conversations with you, like I have with me? Oh? Okay, then, let’s get right to the kebabs.

One Tart, Two Tart, Red Tart, Blue Tart

Saucy Gander and I were discussing Dr. Seuss, since his birthday was recently celebrated. We both missed the opportunity to do a Green Eggs and Ham post. How in the world could foodies like us miss that? Let’s smack our foreheads in unison. She did, however, cleverly invoke Dr. Seuss in her Burmese Green Mango post. Me? Nada! And I work in an elementary school.

Very Important Update

All right, peeps, after seeing Sir Johnny make his dramatic entrance in his skintight and Saucy and Margot in their glitzy Dame Edna frocks (yes, let’s call them frocks) and seeing that I wasn’t able to recruit any of the Americans to go back to the dressing room, I’ve decided that I will be the one up for the challenge.

I’ve just changed my Friday casual into a slinky strapless Marilyn Monroe mermaid gown. Of course now I look like a complete sausage. With a tail. But hey, I gotta represent! And apparently, even then, that’s not enough. Next to the Dame Ednas, I so look underdressed. So I piled on boas all around. And now I look like the snow beast Yeti. But hey, I gotta represent!

Anything else I need to do? Should I start talking in that breathy voice? I’d do anything for my country. By the way, Victoria may show up tomorrow in a dramatic fashion to lend me some support. I’m not sure what she has in mind, but she gave me a clue. Queen Sassy Pants.

***

What a party that was! I’m talking about FF3. Did everybody have a good time? I must say I had an absolutely grand old time, what with all the wild gossips flying about.

Have you heard that my girl Patty@Patty Nguyen just opened a diner that doubles as a photo studio? Her breakfast menu may be unconventional (Baked Avocado and Egg Breakfast) but her photos are as professional as any I’ve seen.

And my other girl Sonal@simplyvegetarian777 apparently started operating an Indian bistro that doubles as an art gallery. No kidding, this is just a sampling of what you will see there. Go over now.

The toast of the party, however, was that one who came in his magenta onesie, Sir Johnny (remember, I’ve knighted him). I have to admit he looked quite fetching in it. Or maybe it was the Lemon and Yellow Plum cheesecake in his hands that got everybody up in an uproar.

I’m talking specifically about the Aussie crowd. What a rowdy bunch! Yeah, I’m looking at you, Saucy, and you, Margot! By the way, Saucy didn’t look half bad showing up with her pineapple jam cheese pastry dumplings. Have you seen anything so cute and creative?

And Margot made quite a stir with her early entrance. She brought profiteroles drizzled with chocolate and decorated with pretty strawberry flowers. Mmm…

So, after hearing about all this, you’re still not joining Fiesta Friday? You’re missing out on the fun, don’t you think? I really don’t want you to, so come on down. This is an official invitation. I don’t want to hear any more excuses.

Now, let’s party, people! Who’s that asking me what my contribution to the party is? I made Quayles on Monday and Krantz Cake on Wednesday. I deserve to relax and just enjoy the party!

All right, all right, geez…you’re so demanding! I have funny baby memes for you. ‘Coz who doesn’t love babies? Hope they make you smile!

My sources for the memes are:

Quayles and Potatoe

(Trust me, there are two excellent recipes at the end of the post.)

I sent a quick e-mail to hubby at work asking him to stop by the market on the way home and see if they had quails and if they did to please buy them. So I could make him quails, like Tita made for Pedro in “Like Water for Chocolate.”

The intoxicating imagery of personifying Tita in the kitchen cooking quails in rose petal sauce for her lover must have befuddled my intellectual capabilities. Or it could have been the wine, sipped between the flipping of the pages, actually, that caused the inebriation.

Whatever it was, I saw that I had misspelled “quails” when hubby’s reply came. His standard one-word “ok” was this time replaced with “You mean the birds? How many?” In my haste, I had spelled the word as “quayles”. I was quite beside myself when I saw that. I studied journalism. Misspelling words was a big no-no, a cardinal sin, so said Professor Frederickson.

He used to put big Xs on my paper. “I HAVE FAITH THAT ONE DAY YOU WILL LEARN TO USE YOUR DICTIONARY.” Yup, he wrote that on one of my papers. Geez, how wrong was he? There is now what’s called auto-correct. There is no need for a dictionary.

But, so what if you misspell, anyway? My injured amour-propre predictably turns into indignation. What’s the harm? Does it even matter as long as your readers understand what you mean?

Case in point, I used to work with this guy who constantly spelled “speek” when he meant “speak’. He was only the General Manager of the company. And who can forget Dan Quayle spelling “potato” with an added “e” at the end. He was the Vice President of the greatest nation on earth. I’m speaking as a proud American, of course.

So you see, these people at the top? They can’t spell. Didn’t seem to put them at a disadvantage one bit. Me? I agonize constantly about the possibility of making errors, and I’m writing a blog. There is nothing wrong with being a blogger, I assure you, fellow bloggers. I was just trying to make a comparison. Forgive me.

Maybe I should be less inhibited about spelling. Maybe it doesn’t matter all that much. If I had given you a recipe, and it reads like this:

can you read this riddle unusual recipe
Can you read this?

Would you be able to make it out? I have reasons to believe that you would. Your brain can do much more than you think. Unless of course you are sipping too much of that wine like I was. In which case you might have read “gralic” as “gaelic”. And you certainly wouldn’t want to peel the gaelic. Or maybe you would.

He is gralic (source)

‘Nuf said. I’m making you Quayles and Potatoe.

Fiesta Friday #486

The weather has been pretty mild so far. Which I appreciate. And from the looks of it, the plants in the garden do as well. Things are definitely looking green and lush out there. Check out this newly planted foxglove. Isn’t it pretty? Btw, I took that picture with my new iPhone, and it’s unedited. […]

The end of the school year is fast approaching, but somehow things just keep getting busier for me. Preparations for upcoming travel plans become front and center in my daily routine. It’ll be the first time in 3 years that I travel by plane, or have a need for a passport. Gosh, I definitely feel […]

Happy Mother’s Day to all Fiesta Friday Moms out there! Here’s a cake for you! I made that cake for my own mom many years ago. At the time, the kids were younger so I didn’t get a home-baked cake from them, nor did I expect any. Most likely they and their dad took me […]

Feliz Cinco de Mayo! In honor of the special day, I’ll be serving Mexican food tonight. Most likely Barbacoa. Though it seems we have Barbacoa at least every other week, but who’s complaining?! And because the daughter is home, I’ll be making two kinds of barbacoa. Pork, which is everyone else’s favorite, and vegan, for […]

Every time I see jumbo shrimp on sale, I feel compelled to buy. Because. Jumbo. Shrimp. Major mass appeals there, right?! Consequently, there are now several packages of jumbo shrimp in the freezer. I discovered them when I was trying to reorganize the freezer. Who knows how long they’ve been there! My first instinct was […]
