Now, before you get all stressed out, let us remind you that this is just a friendly challenge. We’re not exactly competing, we’re mostly sharing with each other. However, for the highly motivated among you, there will be judging and winner(s) selected.

My co-host Catherine@Catherine Cuisine and I will be the judges for now. We may feel the need for additional judges in the future, and if you would like to volunteer, please let us know. As a judge, however, you will be excluded as a potential winner, even though you participate.

We are also looking for ways to sweeten the pot. There may be prize(s) given to the winner(s). If any of you would like to contribute prizes, please share them with us. (By the way, tiaras/sashes may be presented to those winners who particularly love to gloat and parade in them. We know who you are!)

Please check out this post periodically, to keep yourself abreast of the latest updates. Due to the nature of this challenge (one-month long), this post will be routinely updated, as needed.

Guidelines for the challenge are as follows:

  • Post a recipe of something you make that uses both yeast and herb(s) together. It can be food or drink (beer comes to mind).
  • The yeast used can be of any kind, but it must be live yeast that allows fermentation. Baker’s yeast, brewer’s yeast, sourdough starter, and even tempeh starter may be used, even though tempeh starter is not actually a yeast, but rather, a mold.
  • Leavening agents such as baking powder or baking soda, sometimes referred to as “chemical yeast,” however, is not allowed to be used to replace the yeast as the primary leavening agent in the recipe.
  • Display the Fiesta Friday Challenge Badge on the post.
  • Link the post to the Fiesta Friday Challenge #1 post @The Novice Gardener (this post).
  • Add a photo thumbnail of your recipe to the link-up provided below
  • You may enter as many recipes as you like.
  • Submissions will be accepted until May 25th, 2014.

Update (May 8, 2014)
Great news! A very generous sponsor has offered to put up these prizes:

1st PLACE

Tartine Bread
“Tartine Bread,” a book authored by a man many consider to be the best bread baker in the United States, Chad Robertson, co-owner of Tartine Bakery in San Francisco, a city that knows its bread.

2nd PLACE

rose measuring spoon
A set of Floral Rose Measuring Spoons by Ganz

3rd PLACE

Herb Seeds
12 Varieties of Organic Herb Seeds

Who is this generous sponsor? We can’t tell you her name since she wishes to remain anonymous, but you wouldn’t be surprised if we had told you. Look around among ourselves. She is one of us, one of the participants, and definitely not one of the judges (that excludes me and Catherine).

Her posts often make you laugh. Her blog header is unique and shows her fun-loving nature. We have been in close contact with her, and we can tell you she is truly a gem. You can always count on her. How lucky are we to have met such a pretty person with such big heart?

Let’s get the conversation going. We’d like to hear what some of you are thinking. Who do you think this generous soul is? And what are some of the things you learn so far about working with yeast? Did you read the updated guidelines? We have included other kinds of yeast that you can use in your recipe. That should make things more interesting, don’t you think?
